FAQ

Always follow the manufacturers technical manual and instruction manual.

Each Eveook anchor is made with a high-strength aerospace grade aluminum alloy in a unique patented design that allows the hooks to be very strong, yet lightweight.

Eveook anchor bodies have been tested to break at more than 9,000 lbs. Visit the Technical tab on our homepage to review our testing and certifications.

A great benefit to the Ballantyne Gear Eveook Fall Protection System is that no one has to get on the roof until the fall protection is installed; whether you install from eave to eave or gable to gable.

The harness sizing chart for our GT ANSI Full Body Harness can be found here: GT ANSI Full Body Harness Sizing Chart

SL = Size 1

L-XXL = Size 2

Each Eveook weighs only 22 lbs. yet is tested to break at more than 9,000 lbs! The Eveooks are very easy to carry in your hands, on your shoulder, or lifted with a rope on a job.

Yes. To ensure quality and safety, hundreds of tests have been and continue to be performed. Testing was performed at an independent ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. The Eveook Fall Protection System also meets US OSHA CFR 1910.140 Appendix D, CFR 1926.501 (b) (13), CFR 1926.502 Appendix C, and ANSI Z359.18.

For more information about testing, please see our Testing and Certifications pages, explore content under our Technical header, and subscribe to our videos on www.YouTube.com/BallantyneGear.

No. If an Eveook system is properly installed on a soffit that is supported by rafter tails or trusses, the Eveooks will not damage the soffits. For weak soffits, like aluminum or vinyl soffits that are not supported by rafter tails or trusses, use the Ballantyne Gear SoffitGuards.

Each kit includes 2 SoffitGuards that are 12 inches deep for soffits up to around 16 inches, and 2 SoffitGuards that are 24 inches deep for soffits up to around 28 inches deep.

If an Eveook system is properly installed, it
will not touch the rain gutter. See pages 8-12 in the Technical Manual:

Yes. Ballantyne Gear created The Lynk Rafter Tail System which is used on sloped roof structures with rafter tails and no soffits, to create a temporary soffit that will allow installation of an Eveook to a roof edge.

The Ballantyne Gear Eveook Fall Protection System is a certified ANSI engineered system to hold up to 8 users per system in both fall restraint and fall arrest.

For a summary, the Ballantyne Gear Eveook Fall Protection System is an ANSI Z359.6 and CSA Z259.16 certified fall protection system that meets OSHA 1910.140 and 1926.502 and can be used for up to 8 users with the Ballantyne Gear UHMWPE anchor line rope, with no more than four users per 100-foot span. A span is a distance of an installed Eveook anchor line bordered by two of an Eveook, a ridge, or a support line. Because this is an engineered system, it must have a safety margin of at least 2. It is not required to hold 5,000 pounds per user. The force of a fall is affected by many things. The energy absorber in the Eveook Goblin will reduce the fall arrest force to not more than 1300 pounds, friction of the roof will also decrease the fall arrest force, even from roofs with little friction, like steel and tile. That said the Eveooks will hold over 9,000 pounds each. A fall that is perpendicular to the anchor line will divide the force between two Eveooks. The UHMWPE anchor line is as strong as a steel cable and will hold over 17,000 pounds. For a better understanding, you can watch our videos and read the Technical Manual at www.BallantyneGear.com.

For easy access to and from the anchor line, with 8 users, you will want two ladders.

One on each side of the anchor line, so that at the most, you will only need to cross over 3 lifeline attachments to the anchor line. To cross over, you can attach a Prusik to the anchor line, past the lifeline connection or connections of the other workers, attach your backup lanyard to the Prusik and then remove and reattach your lifeline at the intended destination.

When you use the Eveook system, generally you are working perpendicular to the anchor line so you can easily work your area and not be disrupted by other lifelines. Two or more can easily work together by generally keeping their lifelines from crossing.  Again, since you are generally working perpendicular to the anchor line, this is fairly easy.  The workers on the two ends of the anchor line are usually the only ones that will need to work more parallel to the anchor line, but their work can be away from the other workers.

Yes. Our system meets and exceeds US OSHA CFR 1910.140 Appendix D, CFR 1926.501 (b) (13), CFR 1926.502 Appendix C.

Yes. The Ballantyne Gear
Eveook Fall Protection System is certified to the ANSI Z359.6-16 standard as an engineered fall protection system for sloped roofs on residential and commercial buildings for up to 8 users per system in fall restraint and fall arrest, when used as specified in the technical manual.

Yes.  The Ballantyne Gear Eveook Fall Protection System meets the CSA Z259.16-15 standard as an engineered fall protection system for sloped roofs on residential and commercial buildings for up to 8 users per system in fall restraint and fall arrest, when used as specified in the technical manual.

The Ballantyne Gear Eveook Fall Protection System can protect large crews of up to 8 users per system by utilizing a Maxibraid strong-as-steel High Modulus Polyethylene (HMPE) fiber rope made by Yale Cordage.

Eveooks attach to roofs with a slope of 4:12 to 16:12, as shown in the examples below.

Examples of Eveook Configurations, including wheel sizes, roof slopes, soffits and rafter tails can be found on pages 10 - 12 our our technical manual.

Install the shingles up to the Eveook, then get off the roof. Slightly loosen the anchor line that is between the two Eveooks just enough to slide the Eveook over the installed shingles, and then re-tension, as described in the Technical Manual.

Yes, Ballantyne Gear currently holds 18 patents and patents pending. See our Patents page for more details.

It is unlikely that a projectile will damage the house or structure. The installation is performed in a manner to prevent the projectile from striking sensitive areas, such as windows; however, you can see a 20 foot launch of a projectile, directly at a window here, causing no damage. Not shown is the projectile was launched at, and struck the window twice in a row.

This is a great question. I will provide material and an opinion, but you will need to verify it with your attorney.

1910.23

This is OSHA standard and law for ladders. There are also OSHA interpretations of this law, but interpretations “cannot create additional employer obligations.” In the standard, there is no mention of a three-point contact. It seems that the teaching of three-point contact is not literal since, generally, that is not how people climb ladders. From the firefighter ladder training video, you can see that when approaching the 2nd and 4th rung, the firefighter removes his hand from the ladder rung and then before placing his hand on the next rung, he lifts his foot so that, for a moment, he only has 2 points of contact. If you go to any worksite, this is how people climb.

Within OSHA 1910.23 at 1910.23(b)(12) it states:

Each employee uses at least one hand to grasp the ladder when
climbing up and down it.

It seems that 1910.23(b)(12) is the source of the three-point
contact teaching. In the OSHA interpretation of 1910.23(b)(12) the author states that the intent of 1910.23(b)(12) is for employers to ensure that workers maintain "three-point contact." As this is an interpretation, not the law, the statement “does not create additional employer obligations” and is not enforceable.

Note that the standard requires the employee grasp the ladder
when climbing, but it does not require the user to grasp the ladder when positioned on the ladder. In the video showing an installer carrying a solar panel up a ladder, you can see that, “generally”, the worker is grasping the ladder when climbing and that he slides his hand up while positioned on the ladder to prepare to take another step. The worker is not doing this exactly, but he is doing it enough to be recognized.

1910.23(b)(13)

No employee carries any object or load that could cause the
employee to lose balance and fall while climbing up or down the ladder.

1910.23(b)(13) is extremely vague and requires an interpretation. What load would cause which employee to lose balance and fall.

Would carrying a carabiner cause an employee to lose balance and fall? Would carrying a solar panel cause an employee to lose balance and fall? Would carrying a stack of shingles, or a canvas for a fumigation cause an employee to lose balance and fall?

In OSHA’s Green Job Hazards, OSHA states that a worker “should never be allowed to climb ladders while carrying solar panels. Lifting equipment, such as ladder hoists, swing hoists, or truck mounted cranes/conveyors, should be used wherever possible.” Note that, with OSHA, “should” indicates a recommended practice or guidance that is advised but not legally enforced. It's a suggestion or best practice that employers are encouraged to follow for enhanced safety, but not legally required.

After discussing the legal requirements, let me ask the most important question. If your employee is using the Eveook system, as shown in the video above, is he or she safer?

Referral Program FAQs

Referral marketing essentially means that you refer others to purchase our products by word of mouth. We want to reward you for spreading the word by giving you a generous commission for your time. When a customer you refer purchases products from us you will receive 5% of everything they purchase for one full year!

While there are similarities between the two types of marketing, referral marketing takes a more personal, direct approach. We want people who know, like, and use our brand to refer others to our products based on their experience and interactions with us.

Ballantyne Gear uses GoAffPro to manage the technical backend of our referral program. They are highly rated and provide the unique specifications we need in order to give you commissions for a full year. For specific questions please contact VP of Marketing, Amy Ballantyne, Amy@BallantyneGear.com.

No! Many people who love our product don't work on a roof themselves but they love being ambassadors for our brand. We want to reward anyone who sends business our way. Anyone 18 and older can join our referral program.

Once you sign up for your free account and upload your W-9, your account will be activated to receive commissions. Once your account reaches $50 in commissions, you will receive your funds the next billing cycle. Sending your commissions the next billing cycle helps to account for any order changes before your payment is sent.

Ballantyne Gear will handle all payments, questions, shipments, and all customer service. You are rewarded for your referral. We take care of the rest!

There are a few different parameters set up to ensure you receive credit for your customer.

1) You will be given a unique URL specifically to you. This is the only link that will track your sales. Once clicked, this URL activates a tracking cookie that is valid for 7 days. A tracking cookie is a digital footprint to trace back to your account for credit of the sale. If Your potential customer creates an account or makes a purchase within that 7 day period using that link, the accounts will be automatically connected. Encouraging your customer to create an account before they purchase immediately links your accounts.

After that 7 days your potential client can re-click your unique URL or you can do the step below.

2) However, you can also give your potential client your name and referral code and we will process the sale on our end connecting your accounts (no matter the time frame past the 7 days).

You will find your referral code after the = sign in your URL. For example if my Referral Program URL was www.BallantyneGear.com=TestABC, TestABC would be my referral code I would give with my name.

3) Many times Ballantyne Gear creates a custom quote for clients and sends that quote via email to the customer to complete the transaction. We will always ask if they were referred to us and ask for their Referral Partner's name and code. You can track your sales and commissions in your dashboard, but feel free to follow up with Ballantyne Gear and/or your customer.

Our referral program is open to new customers only. If your potential client has already purchased from us before or if they already have an account created, no commissions can be awarded.

No. This program is open for you referring, or sending, people to us and commissions are calculated once their purchase is made.
